David was born on August 27, 1929 in Buffalo, NY to Samuel and Esther Bubes. He attended Weequahic High School in Newark, NJ, where he excelled at cross-country and became the City Mile Champion. David also had a great love of music, especially jazz, and played both the clarinet and saxophone in jazz bands throughout college. In 1951, he graduated with a degree in Textile Engineering from Philadelphia University. One summer evening, David met "the most beautiful woman he had ever seen", Harriet Ruth Popick, at a party in NJ. They were married in July 1951, and just celebrated 66 years together this past July. Shortly after they wed, David left to serve in the U.S. Army until 1953. Upon his return, David began his career in the textile industry with Carter Industrial Laundry, located in Landover, MD. He was instrumental in the growth of the business from a single location to a multi-state operation and served as President until the company was sold in 1982. In 1985, he purchased Linens of the Week, headquartered in Washington, D.C. with his four sons, serving as Chairman of the Board while overseeing the growth of the business to one of the largest linen suppliers in the country, until it was acquired in 2012. David was an active member on the boards of several non-profit organizations and was very passionate about his work at the family's synagogue, Adas Israel Congregation. In 2013, David and Harriet received the Shem Tov Award from Adas Israel for their lifetime contributions to the congregation and it's community. David was an active member of Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD and Boca Rio Golf Club in Boca Raton, FL, where he served as President from 2005-2006. David was an avid golfer, accomplished bridge player and enjoyed his later years with Harriet between Washington, D.C. and Florida. His greatest joy was spending time with his family where he was a tremendous husband, father and grandfather. Dave was also admired by a large circle of friends.
