Dr. DAVID HORWITZ (Age 90)
A research and clinical internist at the National Institutes of Health for 33 years, died peacefully on December 25, 2015. A long-time resident of Bethesda, MD, David was born in Bronx, NY to Benjamin and Sadie Horwitz. He was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Colgate University, and the NYU School of Medicine. He also received a Master''s of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. David served as a Captain in the US Navy Public Health Service following World War II, and spent his career at the National Institutes of Health conducting important research on high blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions. He retired in 1982.
Dr. Horwitz was an avid kayaker, cyclist, and rock climber, and enjoyed photography, Japanese brush painting, and playing the recorder. He traveled the world and delighted in learning about other cultures. He was married for 45 years to Florence Shulman until her death in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Arabella; his brother, Leonard; his children, Robert Horwitz, Janet Kravitz, Kenneth Horwitz, Barbara Golden and Karen Horwitz; his step-children, Martina and Carlos Driscoll; and 10 grandchildren.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 27 at Congregation Beth El in Bethesda, MD, followed by a burial service at the King David Memorial Garden, Falls Church, VA at 12:30 p.m. Shiva will be held at the home of David and Arabella, 7305 Millwood Road, Bethesda from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, December 28 and 29, 2015.
