James Ebert Obituary

James Ebert, age 93, of Rockville, MD, passed away on Monday, October 19 surrounded by his children. Jim graduated from Central High and Columbus University, and served in the Pacific during WWII as a Tech Sergeant in the US Army. Prior to enlisting , he married the love of his life, Rhoda Fine, Miss Takoma Park 1943. He joined District Grocery Stores as an office boy, and served for 20+ years as chief accountant and office manager - affectionately known by all as "Mr. DGS."
He loved local sports -- the Wheaton High School Knights, the Washington Redskins and his beloved Washington Senators, and he loved playing tennis. Gregarious and generous, he never met a stranger - all became friends.

He is survived by his brother Eugene (Dolores) Ebert and cousin Phyllis Mapou; his three children, Daniel Ebert (Karen) of Poolesville, MD, Barbara Ebert (Jeffrey Brownstein) of Richmond, VA, and Carlyn Ebert of Roanoke, VA; nine grandchildren, Michelle Ebert Freire, Stacy Moore, Elizabeth Rudnick, Emily Boss, Joanna Rudnick, Susannah White, Jesse Feldberg, James Watson, and Andrew Watson; and 10 great-grandchildren, Alex, Sammy, Zoe, Sydney, Hugh, Gillian, Lila, Andy, Lily, and Stirling. He is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Rhoda: his siblings Alice, Milton, and Stanley; and his dear friend Minerva Slutzky.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, October 22 at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in George Washington Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Rd., Adelphi, MD (Entrance off of Adelphi Rd). The family will receive guests afterwards at the home of Stacy and Tony Moore, 18305 Hickory Meadow Dr., Olney, MD. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Jim's name.
