Marjorie Mishel Lantos died at her most recent home in Gaithersburg, MD, on Wednesday morning, September 24. After a difficult year filled with complicated medical issues, her body finally said, "Enough." Now, wherever she is, she's probably thinking, "Better here than in a nursing home."
Margie will also be dearly missed by her four children -- Jeff, John, Tom and Lauren and their spouses; by her grandchildren -- Luci, Marlena, Julian, Adrienne, Hannah, Tess, Emma, Matthew and Jaime; by her nephews Aaron, Steve and Jim, by her niece Meredith; by her brother (and only sibling) David Mishel and his wife Jan; her brother-in-law Bob and his wife, Sandy, and by a clutch of cousins, in-laws and friends old and new, far and wide.
Born in Boston in 1929, educated at Pembroke College, Margie married Dr. Raymond Lantos, a WWII veteran and physician, in 1952. They settled in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. After raising their children, Marge and Ray moved to Casco, ME and then to Bethesda, MD. They were married for 55 years.
No matter where she lived, the welcome mat was always out, the fridge was always full, the mattress always firm, and plans were always being made. Even when her eyesight failed her, she could still tell you which road to turn on to cut five minutes off a car trip. Who knows? She's probably thinking of a short-cut right now.
The Lantos family will be receiving visitors at the home of Lauren and Alex Kafka, 6201 Stardust Lane, Bethesda, MD, 20817 from 4PM-7PM on Friday, Sept 26 and Saturday, Sept 27th. We would love to see friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10AM on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels 1170 Rockville Pike
Rockville, MD 20852. Donations in her honor can be made to Seeds of Peace, 370 Lexington Ave., Suite 1201, New York, NY 10017 or online at www.seedsofpeace.org/donate. Or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, www.pdf.org.
