Stanley Irving Wolf (Age 92) of Rockville MD on Saturday, September 23, 2017. Beloved husband of Marcia Robinson Wolf and the late Harolyn Orleans Wolf; devoted father of Melinda Wolf, Leslie Creutzfeldt (Nikolaus), Julie Kolker (Adam) and Carole Neuhaus (Pedro); cherished grandfather of Daniel, Jonathan, Hannah, Anton, Anya, Joshua, Jonas, and Clara.
He was born and raised in Washington, DC, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School, Georgetown University (Cum Laude), and Georgetown Medical School. He interned at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and did a Pediatrics residency and an Allergy Fellowship at Children's National Hospital in Wash, DC. From 1948 to 1951, Stanley was enlisted in the US Navy Medical Corps, first in San Diego then as lieutenant in the 1st Marine Division during the Inchon invasion and the recapture of Seoul, South Korea. He served on the front lines in the Chosin Reservoir campaign, in North Korea, Nov-Dec, 1950, for which he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Stanley practiced pediatrics and allergy for over 47 years, retiring in 1998. He was Founder and Medical Director of the Jewish Foundation for Retarded Children (now called the National Children's Center). Among his numerous medical awards, he twice received the Physician of the Year award from Montgomery County Medical Society: for his role as Director of Polio and Measles immunization programs, in 1964 and later, for his dedication to teaching pediatric residents in his office and at the National Children's Center.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel at Judean Memorial Gardens, Tuesday Sept 26, 2017, at 11:00 AM. Shiva will take place Tues-Thurs, 6:30 PM at the home of Marcia Wolf.
