Jules P. Sussman
On May 12, 2016, Jules P. Sussman died at his home, with his loving wife of 65 years, June, by his side.
Jules was born on April 11, 1929 in Springfield, MA to Harry and Bertha Sussman. His younger brother, Alvin, preceded him in death.
Jules was a precocious young boy who was often found tinkering with model airplanes around the house. His love of learning led him to receive a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1956 from the University of Maryland. He received his Masters of Science in Applied Physics and Engineering from Harvard University in 1957.
In 1951, he married June Ellen Quint of Quincy, Massachusetts and together they had three children (Ronald, Judith and Jerald), seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Jules's commitment to serving his country began when he enlisted in the United States Army in the signal corps, before earning his degree from the University of Maryland. This knowledge would lead to working for Raytheon Corporation, where he helped design radar receivers for the US Air Force bombers. Following his four years there, he began working for MITRE Corporation as a member of the technical staff focusing on radar technology. His work included using ground, airborne, and shipboard radars to gain intelligence about possible Soviet ballistic attacks on the United States. During this time, Jules was a guest lecturer at Northeastern University.
He continued serving his country working for the Office of the Secretary of Defense in 1970 as a radar technology expert. Then in 1973, Jules began his 30-year service with the Central Intelligence Agency.
Jules was a pioneer in the preservation of land. In the mid-1960s, Jules was chairman of the Lexington Conservation Commission and worked on keeping a large parcel of land as open space. The area is now 140 acres and is called "Dunback Meadow" in Lexington, MA.
He was also co-architectural designer and founding member of the Reform Jewish Congregation at Temple Isaiah in Lexington, MA.

A memorial gathering will be held at the home of Judy Nath, 10708 Normandie Farm Drive in Potomac, MD at 3 PM following interment. Shiva services will be held later that evening, from 7-9 PM, at the same residence. The family will hold also host a second Shiva service, on Tuesday, 18 May, from 7-9 PM.
