Walter Rosenberg Obituary

Walter Saul Rosenberg, born in Brooklyn, New York on July 17, 1928, died on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in Rockville, MD at the age of 91.  He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

He grew up in Brooklyn where he attended PS 238 and “stinkin” Lincoln High School.  At the age of 17 he was accepted to George Washington University and became a founding charter member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. After graduating in 1949 with a degree in pharmacy, he worked at his uncle Herman’s pharmacy in Washington, D.C. until he was drafted by the Army during the Korean Conflict in 1951.  He was stationed at a military hospital in Nuremberg, Germany and travelled throughout Europe, skiing the Alps and visiting the cities of Munich, Nice, Venice, and London.

After completing his service, he returned to Washington D.C. where he met his future wife, Sandra Levy, in 1953.  They met for the first time when Walter arrived to pick up Sandra’s cousin Rena for a fix up date.  Sandra happened to be visiting her cousin before the date, and he would always tell Sandra that he knew he was going to marry her when they met that night.  Walter and Sandra’s first date was on New Years Eve 1954, and they married the following spring on May 28, 1955.  They moved to Silver Spring, MD where they lived for over 40 years.

Walter opened Mattapony Pharmacy, in Bladensburg, MD in 1965.  He was a well loved and respected member of the community as a pharmacist and business owner for over 40 years, known affectionately as “Doc”, personally delivering prescriptions to his customers every day on his way home from work.

Walter was a beloved son of Hyman and Rita, brother to Vivian and Tania (Richard), loving husband to Sandra for over 64 years, caring father to sons Larry (Briana) and Steven, and daughter Robyn (Jeff), awesome Poppy to granddaughters Marley (Dylan) and Hayley (Max), and grandson Michael, and best friend to Pepper Doggy. He was also a grateful nephew of Sylvia and Herman, a supportive brother-in-law to Burton, and a kind and generous uncle to Allen (Jessica), Suzy (Christopher John), Bruce (Jim), Annie, and Eileen.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Revitz House, 6111 Montrose Road, Rockville, MD 20852, Sunday, November 17, 2019 from noon to 4:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Judean Memorial Gardens 16225 Batchellors Forest Road Olney, MD 20832 at 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.  Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
