Bernard Calis Obituary
Bernard Joseph Calis passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on September 28, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Therese and his son Philippe.
He is survived by his daughter, Corinne O'Leary, her children Lauren, Tyler and Taryn O'Leary, and Phillippe's children Lucie, Claire and Bernard Calis, as well as beloved family members, including his sister Odile Carmi, his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bernard was born in Jerusalem on April 12, 1927. He lived a full and rich life in Asia, Africa, Europe and the US. He initially retired in France and finally settled in Bethesda, Maryland.
Bernard's illustrious and varied career included time at the United Nations, Barclays Bank, ownership of the Ebbitt Hotel in Washington, DC. He was also the owner of L'Hostellerie de La Vallee in Gimel les Cascades France and Madeltour travel agency in Paris, France.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 30th at Saint John The Evangelist Catholic Church located at 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902. Bernard's nephew Father Joseph Calis will officiate the ceremony. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
