On October 21, 2016, Burton Ploener, 84, died peacefully after a long illness in Bethesda, Maryland. Burton was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (nee Slavitz), daughter Missy Dubroff and her husband, Andrew Dubroff, son Nathan Ploener and his wife Christina Juarez, grandchildren, Matthew Dubroff and his wife Mandy, Lindsay Dubroff and Sofia Juarez and beloved brother, Frank Ploener. Born on September 27, 1932, to David and Lillian Ploener in Wilmington, Delaware, Burt graduated P.S. DuPont High School in 1951 and Pennsylvania Military College in 1955, before serving in the U.S. Army and Reserves as a Captain. Following his military service, Burt was the general manager for Frank's Beverages in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for over 20 years before joining the University of Pennsylvania alumni magazine "The Pennsylvania Gazette", staff as the Advertising Coordinator, where he worked for 12 years before retirement.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation for the compassionate care of Roy E. Fried, M.D. and the commitment and love of caregivers Aissata Cager, Fatima Conde and Kadijatu Elba and the caring staff of Sunrise at Fox Hill.
Funeral Services will be graveside on October 23, 2016 at 2:00pm at Menorah Gardens, 12800 Viers Mill Road, Rockville, MD 20853 and the family will receive friends immediately thereafter at the home of Missy and Andrew Dubroff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Burton's name to JSSA Hospice, 200 Wood Hill Road, Rockville, MD 20850.
