Daryl Libow Obituary
Daryl Andrew Libow died from cancer on November 7th at age 59. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beth, their daughters Jess and Claudia, his parents Sanford and Adelyn, sister Lindsey, brother Marc and wife Elise, mother-in-law Beverly, and loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A dear and respected colleague, Daryl joined Sullivan & Cromwell in 1986, and worked in their New York and London offices before moving to Washington D.C. in 1994. Daryl served as managing partner of the D.C. office as well as co-head of the firm's anti-trust practice. Throughout his career, he acted as lead counsel and represented clients in a broad range of matters. Equally significant to his legacy at Sullivan & Cromwell is his leadership in the D.C. office. A devoted mentor and role model, Daryl will be missed dearly by the entire office.
Daryl graduated from Harvard University, London School of Economics and Political Science, and Cornell Law School. He remained an avid student all his life, pursuing his interests in jazz, wine, nautical archeology, and sports with the same intensity he brought to his professional endeavors. His love of jazz, cultivated at an early age, lead to a lifelong passion, and Daryl served on the boards of both the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and The Ellington Fund of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Throughout his life, Daryl remained committed to social justice and proudly served on the board of Human Rights First. He was also a member of the Dean's Advisory Council of Cornell Law School as well as the Maret School board.
Daryl was most fulfilled by his relationship with his wife and daughters and close circle of family and friends. Daryl's priorities were always close to home, and his family and loved ones will miss his ever-present love and devotion.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 11, 1:00 PM at Washington Hebrew Congregation; with interment to follow at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park in Clarksburg, MD. Gifts may be made in Daryl's memory to Human Rights First or the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Services handled by Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
