Dr. GILBERT BARKIN
Dr. Gilbert Barkin died in his home, August 31, 2015, after a long, fulfilling life at the age of 86. Married to the love of his life, Sandy Barkin for 52 years, he valued family, friends, and community. He had a gift for making life-long friends.
Gil also had a deep love for his family including his four children: Ruth Ann Barkin, Jan Kutchen, Ken Barkin, and Shari Barkin (Jeff Frumkin); his seven grandchildren: Kelcey Earnest (Jason), Kyle Bond, Corey Bond, Laura Kutchen, Ben Frumkin, Cora Frumkin, and Liam Frumkin; and his two great-grandchildren: Parker Ray and Noah Earnest.
He was a passionate, dedicated doctor who trained at GW Medical School, interned at Sinai Hospital, completed his residency at Washington University, and an allergy fellowship at Baylor. He ran a solo practice in Silver Spring, Maryland for 40 years, treating three generations of patients. He cared for the whole patient, the whole person, and often, the whole family.
It was a truly wonderful life: high school valedictorian, a Major in the Air Force and the President of the American College of Allergy. Through his generosity of spirit, his words and deeds, the world is made better.
Services will be held Friday, September 4, 10 a.m. at SAGEL BLOOMFIELD FUNERAL CARE, 1170 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852. Family will be observing Shiva through Sunday at Dr. Barkin's late residence.
