Joan Erdreich Kotz, died September 20, 2018 at her home in Potomac, Maryland. She was 79 years old.
She was raised in Poughkeepsie, NY and graduated from Tufts University. After getting married, she ultimately settled in Silver Spring, Maryland, and later Potomac, MD.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Herbert L Kotz. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Andrew Erdreich, and her parents, Dr. Jacob and Lucille Erdreich.
Grieving are her sister, Fredyne Morse, of Coconut Creek, Florida, and her three sons and daughter-in-laws, including Dr. Kenneth and Nancy Kotz of Wilmington, North Carolina and grandchildren Samuel, Jacob and Andrew; Robert and Bonnie Kotz of Reston, Virginia and grandchildren Adam, Gregory and Lynsey; and Daniel and Shira Kotz of North Potomac, Maryland and grandchildren Alexa, Jeremy and Brenden.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors and staff at the NIH who cared for her for nearly 20 years. Joan always felt valued and supported every moment she was there. While the superb medical care allowed her to survive with cancer for many years, the personal attention she received was equally meaningful to her.
Services will be at Temple Beth Ami in Rockville, Maryland on Sunday September 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. with internment to follow at Garden of Remembrance in Clarksburg, Maryland. The family will be receiving friends Monday at the family house with a Shiva minyan service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan's memory to the Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health at 7 West Drive, Bethesda, MD 20814.
