The Honorable Marc Lincoln Marks was born February 12, 1927, in Farrell, PA. After graduating high school in Sharon, Pennsylvania, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1951 and the University of Virginia Law School in 1954.
Congressman Marks practiced law for 22 years as the senior member of the law firm of Rodgers, Marks, Irwin, and Perfilio, in Sharon, PA and Farrell, Pennsylvania. The Congressman helped to form the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and served on its first board of directors.
Congressman Marks was elected as a Republican to the House of Representatives, 24th District of Pennsylvania, in November 1976. He served on the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Select Committee on Aging. During his last term he was the Ranking Member of the Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Health and Long Term Care of the Aging Committee.
He served six years before voluntarily retiring from congress to return to the private practice of law. From 1983 to 1994, he served as independent counsel and consultant for Westinghouse Electric Corp.
In 1994, Congressman Marks was nominated to the Federal Mine Safety Health and Review Commission by President Bill Clinton. He was confirmed by the United States Senate and served as a commissioner for a six-year term.
Marks became an adjunct professor at the George Washington University Law School, Washington D.C. teaching a course on lobbying. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia's Darden School, Charlottesville, VA, teaching the relationship between business and government.
Congressman Marks is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jane London Marks, three daughters: Leslie (Gary) Kirstein, Trisha (James) Ritzenberg, Marilyn Feldman, five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild; and his nephew Richard J Marks Jr.
There will be a private family graveside burial.
