Martha Bindeman

Martha (Koenig) Bindeman of Chevy Chase, MD, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born in Washington, DC on October 29, 1947 to Rose and Nathan Koenig. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stuart L. Bindeman and her daughters, Julie Bindeman Belgard (David Belgard) and Jennifer Bindeman; three grandchildren, Nate, Jordan and Ryan Belgard; as well as two sisters, Judy Wolfman of York, PA and Susan Freed (Fred) of Hollywood, FL. She is also survived by four nieces and three nephews. Mrs. Bindeman graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965. She graduatedfrom the University of Michigan in 1969 and the George Washington University School of Law in 1972. She clerked for Judge Joyce H. Green of the District of Columbia Superior Court and then was employed by the Federal Trade Commission. Upon leaving the practice of law, Mrs. Bindeman founded Finishing Touches Events, LLC, and became one of the city's leading event planners. She won numerous awards, including several prestigious ISES Awards. Mrs. Bindeman was an active volunteer, serving as President of the Sisterhood at Washington Hebrew Congregation and held various positions in the congregation's lay leadership. She served as President of District 8 in the Union for Reform Judaism. She also served as President of the Jewish Social Service Agency. Funeral services will be held at Washington Hebrew Congregation on Sunday, October 8, 2 p.m., followed by interment at Washington Hebrew Congregation Cemetery on Alabama Ave., SE. The family will be sitting shiva on Sunday and Monday at the Somerset Clubhouse, Chevy Chase, MD with minyan at 7 p.m.
