MURIEL F. RAKUSIN (Age 96)
On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, of Chevy Chase, MD. Wife of the late Stanley Rakusin; devoted mother of Susanna, Anthony and Amy Rakusin (Phillip Fratesi). Also survived by loving grandchildren, Jesse, Casey, Kelly, Wesley, Calla, and Jackson and friends Deborah Rakusin and Maria Meza. Muriel Rakusin was born November 25, 1919 in Washington, DC, the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Ruth Friedman and sister of Sally Wheeler. She received her Master''s of Art Education from Columbia University. She was an artist, a dancer (modern and ballroom), interior designer, a gourmet cook and golfer. She was a patron of the arts, philanthropist and founder of the Stanley and Muriel Rakusin Low Vision Clinic at the Hebrew Home. "Moo", to her many friends and family, was known for her "joie de vivre," wit, style and sense of humor.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation Cemetery, 1380 Alabama Ave., SE, Washington, DC 20032.
Family will be receiving immediately after service from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Somerset House, Building 1, 5600 Wisconsin Ave., Chevy Chase, MD 20815. (Reception room on first floor.) In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Muriel''s name to Washington Performing Arts, 202-533-1880, www.washingtonperformingarts.org,.
