On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, Ruth B. Field of Chevy Chase, MD. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence I Field; devoted mother of David (Jen Woods), of Kenwood, CA; Steven (Bonni Field), of Newark, DE; and Melanie (Vinaya Chepuri), of Mukilteo, WA; and cherished grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren.
Born November 6, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, she graduated with a BS in Chemistry from Brooklyn College in 1948. After working at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital from 1948-49, she moved to the Washington, DC area and worked at the NIH Cancer Institute from 1949-1953, while earning an MS in Chemistry from Georgetown University. She married Lawrence I Field April 6, 1952. The couple moved to Cleveland, OH in 1954 where she worked as a Research Associate at Case Western Reserve University. In 1957, they returned permanently to the DC area. In 1977, she earned a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Maryland, and spent the rest of her career at several research and academic facilities in the area.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2 p.m. at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Jewish Social Service Agency Hospice of Montgomery Co (www.jssa.org), the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.
