Selma Blitzstein
Holocaust Survivor
Passed away peacefully on March 25, 2015. Currently a resident of Rockville, MD but previously a 45 year resident of Kemp Mill in Silver Spring. Born in Beremiany, Poland (now Ukraine) on November 22, 1924. She had a reputation as an excellent cook and baker. Beloved wife of the late Nathan Blitzstein; cherished mother of Rose (Saul) Elbaum, Bernard (Lucy) Blitzstein and Anna (Michael) Scher. Adored Bubbe of Jason (Leiah) Elbaum and their children Hannah, Nahum and Tsvi; Gary (Gila) Elbaum and their children Daniel, Andrew and Kira; Joseph (Chava) Elbaum and their children Claire, Molly and Max; Jennifer (Ari) Bernstein and their children Joshua, Isaac and Ezra; Steven (Dana) Blitzstein; Marc and Adam Blitzstein; and Daniel and Alison Scher. Also survived by her loving caregiver Yodit Amdie. Preceded in death by her parents Dov Ber and Rochel Leah (Roller) Zahler and her brother Avraham Yehuda, who all perished in the Holocaust.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 26, 2015 at 1pm at Young Israel Shomrai Emunah, followed by burial at Garden of Remembrance, Clarksburg, MD. Shiva will be observed at the home of Bernie and Lucy. Memorial contributions may be made to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, or JSSA Hospice.
