Terry W. Ledley
Terry Wachtell Ledley, 91, died on July 25, 2018, in Laurel, MD. She was predeceased by her husband, of 63 years, Dr. Robert Ledley. A lover of nature, avid equestrian, and Founder of TROT (Trail Riders of Today), she was known for promoting and protecting horse trails, and was honored with a trail in her name along the Patuxent Reservoir. Born on July 27, 1926, she was an accomplished pianist before attending Queens College, majoring in music, and completed a MA in mathematics from Columbia University. She subsequently worked at the Bureau of Standards, where she was one of the world's first computer programmers on the team that developed SEAC (Standards Eastern Automatic Computer), the first programmable computer. She was devoted to her two sons, Dr. Fred Ledley (married to Tamara Shapiro Ledley) and Dr. Gary Ledley (married to Deborah Roth Ledley) and her four grandchildren, Miriam Ledley Franks, Johanna Ledley, Jenna Ledley, and Matthew Ledley. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb St NW, Washington, DC 20016. Interment is private. Family will be observing Shiva following the service at the late residence.
