Alan Levin of Rockville, MD passed away on January 14. He had been struggling with Parkinson's Disease for the past few years. He was born on July 24, 1931 in his beloved city of Philadelphia. An avid Phillies fan, Alan graduated from Philadelphia's Central High School and then went on to receive a BS from Temple University. He served on the original task force that established the Environmental Protection Agency and was assistant to the first EPA administrator. He served as Deputy Director of the Ohio EPA. After that, he helped developed regulations to implement the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act. In 1982, the highlight of his career with the EPA was becoming the Deputy Regional Administrator of Region V in Chicago. He retired from the government in 1986 and moved to Denver to become the Director of The American Water Works Association Research Foundation in Denver. In 1989 he moved back to Maryland where his career first began.
He is survived by his wife Donna, son Mark Levin (Jaime), daughter Barbara Meadow (Howard), stepdaughter Jocelyn Shugart (Aaron), and stepson EJ Lux (predeceased) and six grandchildren: Laura, Cameron. Drew, Judah, Jeremiah and James.
