June 29, 1928 –November 23, 2019

Albert Capon was born in New York City to parents who immigrated from Salonica, Turkey (modern-day Thessaloniki, Greece). Albert attended Boys High in Brooklyn and later served in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician aboard a destroyer. During his military service, he was known for having no fear of heights—a trait he retained throughout his life—and for being entirely immune to seasickness, even in the notoriously rough seas off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

Following his honorable discharge, he attended New York University, where he majored in French. A true polyglot, Albert was fluent in French, Spanish, and Ladino, and possessed a strong comprehension of Italian and Portuguese. His mastery of languages fueled his lifelong passion for world travel, which became his principal hobby.

Albert began his professional career working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. When the yard closed, he relocated with his family to the Washington, D.C. area. There, he dedicated his career to civil service, working for the Department of the Navy in the field of submarine sonar logistics.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Capon and Sophie Sasbon Capon, and by his son, Howard Alan Capon. He is survived by his wife Rita Renee Herman Capon, sons, Dr. Daniel Capon (Staci Adams) and Robert Capon (Rosemarie Newsom Capon); his four grandchildren, Howard Avi Capon, Benjamin Capon, Howard Joseph Capon, and Miriam Capon; his great-grandson, Rollie Capon; his sister Martha Capon Drossman; and his brother Dr. Jack Capon (Susan).
