Obituary

After a 19-year battle with multiple myeloma, Alice passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025 from complications of the disease. Alice was born on June 9, 1943 to Ella and Isidore Samuelson of Baltimore, Maryland. She was the middle child, and is survived by her older brother, S. David Samuelson, and her younger sister, Salli Jo Snyder. Alice married Coblens H. Scherr on June 11, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. Their older son, Jason (married to Jessie), was born in 1966, and Peter (married to Cathy), followed in 1967. Alice delighted in spending time with her four grandchildren: Preston, Rachel, Maxwell and Arlo.

Alice was a tireless advocate for multiple myeloma research, and especially devoted herself to patient support. In 2021, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation awarded Alice the Spirit of Hope Award in recognition of her extraordinary efforts.

Alice enjoyed cooking, entertaining, her weekly mah jong game, and leading the decorating and social committees at Grosvenor Park in North Bethesda, where she lived for the past 59 years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center ( dana-farber.org/gift ), or the Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation Kressel Fund for Survivorship Nursing ( secure.jhu.edu/form/sibleymemorialhospital ).
