Obituary

Barbara Jean Stevenson Levine of Potomac, MD, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, with her family and caregivers at her side. Her beloved husband, Dr. Eugene Levine, passed away in 2017. She is survived by her devoted stepsons Gary, Jeffrey, and Douglas (Laura) Levine; grandchildren Kaley (Carson Dye), Scott (Julie), and Stephen Levine; and great grandchildren Tilly and Reid. She is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Gladys (Clooney) Stevenson.

Born February 29, 1932, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Barbara was proud to be a leap-year baby and loved special celebrations in years that she had an "actual birthday." She grew up in Lake Charles and graduated from McNeese State University. After college, Barbara worked as a chemist at Columbia Southern Chemical Corporation in Lake Charles. She moved to Washington in 1959 and enrolled in the graduate program in Public Administration at George Washington University. Her exceptional research and writing talents shined during her 20-year career with the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, doing crossword puzzles, collecting miniature doll houses, listening to classical music, and doting on her grandchildren and tiny toy poodle, Pumpkin. She was known to friends and family for her sometimes-biting sense of humor, and for her lifelong love of Hershey's bars and chocolate chip cookies.

Barbara will be cremated and her remains laid to rest with her husband. Interment services will be held on Sunday, October 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, 14321 Comus Rd., Clarksburg, MD, 20871. Donations may be made to Barbara's alma mater through the McNeese Foundation or to the Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA) which provided loving and capable hospice care in Barbara's final years.
