Slomoff
January 3, 1944 – April 16, 2023
On April 16, 2023, Barbara Slomoff passed away peacefully in her home. She was 79 years old. Beloved mother of Jennifer Slomoff of Los Angeles, California and Jared Slomoff of Burlington, Vermont and she was the wife of Joel Slomoff to whom she was married for 53 years. Much beloved daughter of the late Sybil Blacker and Abe Rasnek, maternal granddaughter to the late Edith and Solomon Aarons, and step-daughter to Leonard Blacker. She is survived by her children, husband, and brother Joseph Blacker of Ellicott City, MD.
Barbara graduated from Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, now known as Johns Hopkins, as a registered nurse. She attended the University of Maryland while fulfilling her dream of graduation with a bachelor's degree. After raising a family and pursuing a professional career, she returned to school completing her degree fifty years later. For thirty-six years Barbara worked as a realtor for Berkshire Hathaway Pen Fed Realty attaining the highest levels of achievement. Known for helping people find and sell homes that brought them happiness was one of her greatest joys.
From 1965 through the late 70s, Barbara was employed as a registered nurse. She worked at the University of Maryland hospital and later for the Baltimore City Public Health department. After having children, Barbara was a stay at home Mom, enjoying Jennifer and Jared. Both were the light of her life. During this time she also did volunteer work through the Service Guild of Maryland and Brandeis University Women's Society. She brought happiness to her many patients and clients while visiting in the homes of elderly, delivering meals on wheels, or assisting new mothers how to care for their children.
Barbara gave tours at the Kennedy Center and often found time to assist in her children's schools. She was particularly proud of her daughter whose care and devotion was unmatched. Another major theme in her life was a love of music which Jared shared and studied. As a Suzuki mom, countless hours were spent with the two of them practicing and forming a very special bond. To her friends and family, Barbara was known for her kindness, compassion, resilience, strength, style, and sense of humor.
A private family memorial will be held returning her to nature in a celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or your favorite charity.
