BERTHA Blumenthal,94,died peacefully on Saturday, August 29, at the Hebrew home of Greater Washington . She was born in Bensheim, Germany to Louis and Schnenny Reiss and suffered the indignities of the beginning of the Nazi Era. She fled with her family to New York in 1935, where she worked odd jobs until she met and married the love of her life, Arthur. They moved to Toms River, NJ, where they raised 3 children, Helen, and Michael (Carla) of New York City, and Susan Koss (Rabbi Saul) of Silver Spring. The family moved back to New York and a few years after Arthur died, Bertha moved to Silver Spring. In addition to her children, she is survived by 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a great great granddaughter. Donations may be made in her memory to the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, the Berman Hebrew Academy, or JPDS.
