Bert Greenberg was born April 16, 1929 in Baltimore, MD and spent his youth in Baltimore and Philadelphia before moving to the Washington, D.C. area where he met his wife, Audrey, at the DCJCC.
Survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of over 75 years, Audrey Greenberg, and their three children: Barry Greenberg (Kay), Ken Greenberg (Kim), and Lori Genderson (predeceased by Jonathan). His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving grandfather to Alisha Greenberg (Chris Farley), Bryan Greenberg (Lauren), Elyse Genderson (Hal Kramer), Evan Greenberg, Josh Greenberg (Jenny Bilenker), Nichole Greenberg, and Rachel Genderson (Sam Hollander). He was the proud great grandfather of Asher Greenberg, Ben Greenberg, Jacob Farley, Judah Hollander, Matt Greenberg, Raf Kramer, and Tess Greenberg.
Bert graduated from George Washington University pharmacy school prior to working alongside his brothers, Ronnie and Michael, to turn a mom and pop business into a nationally recognized company in the wholesale industry. The family business grew to become United (Drug) Wholesalers, which was a D.C. business leader from 1933-2006.
He shared an extraordinary and inseparable love with his wife, Audrey. They would often travel the world and were avid golfers. They were longtime members of B’nai Israel Congregation in Rockville, MD where they resided, prior to making a permanent home in Sarasota, FL.
Bert will be remembered for his warmth, humor, charisma, and how he thoroughly enjoyed his family and his life.
Funeral service to be held at B'nai Israel Congregation in Rockville, MD at 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 10. Interment immediately follows at Judean Memorial Gardens followed by shiva and minyan at B'nai Israel from 3:30-8:00pm. Evening shiva at 7:00pm. on Wednesday, March 11 at the home of Lori Genderson.
