IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brian Gilbert
Gordon
October 2, 1938 – May 7, 2024
Brian Gilbert Gordon, age 85, of Rockville, MD, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, Allentown, PA, and Framingham, MA, passed away on May 7th after complications from COVID-19 pneumonia. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis; their two children, Stephanie Fears and Amy McGlynn; his sons in law, William Fears and Matthew McGlynn; and three grandchildren, Charlotte Fears, and Aden and Ari McGlynn. He is the son of the late Louis and Rebecca Gordon and the brother of Sandra Delony.
Brian met his beloved wife the summer before attending Case Western University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu and earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (using punch cards!). His career spanned the original AT&T Bell Labs, Digital Equipment Corp, and Raytheon.
He was a gifted athlete and played many sports throughout his life, including golf, swimming, and racquetball, and kept up with bowling as recently as last month. Always an insatiable learner, he was an avid reader and puzzler, chess player, stained glass artist, furniture maker, and woodworker. He sang his heart out in the Northeast District Barbershop Harmony Society and Singing Capital Chorus for 34 years.
His grown children fondly remember Brian's antics at the JCC pool, adventures at the many family campgrounds where he channeled his Boy Scout years, and his patience when sitting at the kitchen table tutoring AP Calculus to Amy and her friends.
"Papa" was Brian's most favorite title. Long after the grandkids would leave the table, he kept on building the latest Lego or paper crafting project. He treasured the times he taught chess, built treehouses, and joined fun beach and Disney vacations.
A celebration of Brian's life will be held on Sunday, May 19th at 12pm at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, 14321 Comus Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871. Immediately following the interment, family will receive visitors at their residence through 4pm and again from 5:30pm through 7pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Special Olympics in memory of Brian Gordon (support.specialolympics.org).
