Obituary

Bruce Peter Cornwell, 76, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away suddenly on August 7, 2025, after a short illness.

Born in Bethesda, Maryland, Bruce was the beloved husband of 33 years to Michele Horwitz Cornwell. He is survived by his daughter, Laurel Martin (late William Martin) of Livermore, CA; his sons Daniel Cornwell of Eugene, OR, Benjamin Cornwell of New York City, NY, Michael Cornwell of Rockville, MD, and Joey Cornwell (Sarah Cornwell) of Monrovia, MD; and two cherished grandsons, Kevin and Kyle Johnson of Livermore, CA. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald Page Cornwell and Margaret Rude, and his brother, Don Cornwell.

Bruce was a skilled craftsman and entrepreneur. For many years, he owned and operated Cornwell Home Repair, and later founded Safe at Home Repair, a business dedicated to providing aging-in-place modifications that helped countless people remain safely in their homes.

Music was a lifelong passion for Bruce. He was a talented musician who practiced weekly with dear friends, and performed publicly as recently as this summer. Bruce was a founding member of the Washington, D.C. rockabilly band The Pick Ups.

Bruce's artistry extended beyond music, he was an accomplished carver of waterfowl, creating pieces that reflected both patience and precision. Known for his dependability and generosity, Bruce was deeply proud of his family, endlessly kind, and always ready for a long hike with Michele. He was the devoted best friend of his very good dog, Summer.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of creativity, generosity, and love will live on in those whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Bruce's life will be held in the fall.
