Carmella Neomi Kedem, née Abramov, February 9, 1940, Tel Aviv – May 31, 2026 (15 Sivan 5786) Washington, DC. Carmella was married to Dr. Benjamin Kedem for over 59 years. She was the mother of Calanit, Gilead, Mattan Moshe z”l, and Libby and loving grandmother. Carmella was a legendary teacher and guidance counselor in Jerusalem, Haifa, Ofakim, Israel, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Montgomery County, MD, and Washington, DC. Most recently, Carmella taught at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School for 26 years. Her students are spread far and wide and went on to great achievements. Carmella was the daughter of Hadassa (Hilda) Abramov née Snowman, born and raised in Brighton, England and S.Z. Abramov, born in Minsk, Russian Empire. S.Z. Abramov served as Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and was the noted author of Perpetual Dilemma: Jewish Religion in the Jewish State. Carmella is also survived by her siblings Hillel and Edna and their spouses, daughters-in law, son-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
