Obituary

Charlotte Sorkine Noshpitz, born in Paris on February 15, 1925, passed away on the morning of January 12, 2017 in Washington, D.C. Beloved wife of Dr. Joseph Noshpitz, child psychiatrist, mother of Claude Noshpitz, grandmother of Jonathan Cummings and Samuel Joseph Dowd, she was a member of the French Resistance during World War II. She conveyed groups of children to the Swiss Border to be rescued, created thousands of false papers, and accompanied groups of young people over the Pyrenees Mountain to join the Allied armies in Spain. She was awarded the Medaille de la Resistance, the Croix du Combattant Volontaire de la Resistance, the Medaille des Services Volontaires Dans la France Libre, and the War Commemoration Medal. Following the War, she studied art history at the Ecole du Louvre, studied psychology at the Sorbonne and later came to the United States to study mental health treatment centers and new therapeutic disciplines, and worked as an artist for much of her life. Graveside services will be held Sunday, January 15, 2017 1:15p.m. at Mt Lebanon Cemetery in Adelphi, MD. Family will be observing Shiva following the service at the family home.
