IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel Gideon
Hoffman
April 3, 1979 – January 3, 2024
Daniel Gideon Hoffman, April 3, 1979 - January 3, 2024. It is with a heavy heart that we share that Daniel "Danny" Hoffman, beloved son, brother, nephew, and friend, passed on January 3, 2024. We are saddened to say that he lost his life to suicide, and ask our loved ones to gather to celebrate his life. Born in Israel, Danny grew up in Tel Aviv and Givatayim with his mother, Ruthie, where he excelled in school, and spent his summers in the U.S. with his father, Ira, younger sister Lauren, stepmother Mandy, and extended family. A proud veteran of the IDF, Danny specialized in MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket Systems) from 1996 to 1999. Following his honorable discharge, Danny moved in with his father in Maryland, where he graduated from the University of Maryland after having made the Dean's List a number of times. Danny worked at the Public Contracting Institute for over 10 years, where he was invaluable as the continuing education coordinator. Danny was passionate about sports. He was a lifelong fan of Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Pistons. To his family's chagrin and good-natured teasing, he was also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. An avid movie fan, Danny especially loved action films and was known to quote them with aplomb. He also loved Chinese food on Christmas and his family, who will miss his quiet and kind demeanor along with the jokes he would text them to brighten their day. Anytime we hear a terrible joke, we will think of him and smile, or roll our eyes. Danny is survived by his mother, Ruth Hoffman (Arik Simhoni) of Kiryat Ono, Israel; his father, Ira Hoffman (Alissa Messian); and his sister Lauren Hoffman of Bethesda, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Hoffman. Danny is also survived by extended family in the United States and Israel who will miss him dearly. The family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who has supported us during this difficult time. Following his burial in Israel, Shiva will be held on Sunday January 14th from 5:30pm-8pm, with a short service at 5:45, at the Woodward Building 733 15th Street NW Washington DC 20005. (Upon arrival, please follow the instructions on the keypad to enter the building and ask the Concierge to direct you to the rooftop lounge.) A memorial service in Maryland will follow at a later time, which the family will announce soon. Donations in Danny's memory can be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) or the Jewish Social Service Agency in Rockville, Maryland. Danny's family encourages everyone to please remember that destigmatization is a necessary first step to support those we love who have mental illnesses. Danny, and others like him who are struggling with their mental health - whether in the open or in private - will eternally deserve compassion, grace, and healing. May his memory be a blessing.
