Daniel Joseph Lincoln, 86, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 4, 1939 in Erie, Pennsylvania, Dan was the son of Louis and Minna Lincoln. Dan earned a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from Gannon College during which time he participated in ROTC and was commissioned as an officer. Dan served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a helicopter mechanic and was stationed in numerous locations in Japan and throughout the United States.
Following his military service, Dan entered the private sector as an engineer where he worked for several companies, including Westinghouse, LSI Logic, and ASIC International. During this time, Dan acquired several patents for this work designing computer circuits and other electronic components, and served as a principal in the design of the Airborne Warning and Control (AWACS) radar system.
Throughout his life, Dan was an athlete who loved to test his stamina and discipline. He swam regularly near his home in the Chesapeake Bay and enjoyed biking. He was an avid runner who completed several Marine Corps Marathons over more than three decades. He was a youth basketball, t-ball and soccer coach in Bowie, Maryland, a local election official and Pier Chairman for the Watergate Community in Annapolis.
Dan was a passionate history buff who specialized in the Civil War and World War II periods. He collected books about Abraham Lincoln and enjoyed telling stories about his favorite former president. He traveled widely with Phyllis, his wife of 60 years, and with his children and grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Dan valued family. He was an active presence in the lives of his immediate and extended family members and prioritized family events over all else. He and his wife created a safe and welcoming home which hosted the annual Camp Lincoln weekend as well as many friends and colleagues. He enjoyed meeting new people, especially children, and his friendly nature and generous spirit were admired by all.
Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son who will be remembered for his strong work ethic and values; deep sense of duty to country and community; and love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lincoln, and by their three children: Andy Lincoln (Nikki Lincoln) of Annapolis Maryland; Julie Schwartzman (Jeff Schwartzman) of Virginia; and Debbie Lincoln (Doug McKalip) of Washington DC; his grandchildren Jessica Lincoln (Austin Fowler), Noah Lincoln, Lianna Lincoln, Alexa Schwartzman, Zachary Schwartzman, Brooke McKalip, and Brendan McKalip; and his sister Melinda Lincoln Richardson (Michael Richardson). He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jenna Schwartzman and brother, Sam Lincoln.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him and had the fortune to call him Dan, Son, Brother, Dad, Zayde, Coach, Colleague, or Friend.
