Daniel Etkind Luxemburg, age 37, died unexpectedly at his Brooklyn home on Friday, August 19, 2022. Daniel was born on August 28, 1984, in Rockville, MD to Barbara Etkind and Jack Luxemburg. His father is a congregational rabbi, and his mother is an attorney, both retired.

Daniel graduated from Green Acres School, Rockville, MD, from Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C. and from Harvard University. As a student, Daniel distinguished himself as a scholar, a fine photographer, and a championship caliber policy debater, winning national recognition at both the high school and college levels. After graduating from college with a B.A., he settled in New York City, where he entered the world of high-tech startups. Acquiring the necessary skills on his own, he became a talented software engineer and a presenter at conferences and conventions both national and international. His last position was as a Senior Software Engineer at Fastly, a leading cloud computing services provider.

His interests included science and mathematics, literature and philosophy, as well as film and fine arts. Daniel was intrigued by the creative process in those fields, and the role those disciplines played in conveying cultural values. He viewed his own work as a creative endeavor and was concerned about the impact of technology on culture and society. Daniel also enjoyed world travel. He was a passionate advocate for the ideals of equality and social justice.

Cherished son of Rabbi Emeritus Jack Luxemburg and Barbara Etkind; loving brother of Michael Luxemburg, of Austin, TX. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, 11 a.m. at Temple Beth Ami, 14330 Travilah Rd, Rockville, MD 20850 with interment to follow at Garden of Remembrance, Clarksburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth Ami ( bethami.org ) or a social justice project of your choice.
