David Barry, 74, of Bethesda, Maryland, terminally ill with aspiration pneumonia at Montgomery Hospice Casey House, Rockville, Maryland, left his earthly life on Tuesday evening, February 7th. David was born in 1942 in Baltimore City, Maryland. He and his mother, Elizabeth (Shogam) Barry, widowed soon after David's birth, returned to her childhood home in Scranton, Pennsylvania. After graduating from the University of Scranton in 1964, David served as a budget analyst in the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base and in the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW) until 1974. He retired from the Public Health Service, Rockville, Maryland, in 1994. David generously shared his knowledge of computer software and hardware through the Capital PC User Group's Build Your Own Computer and Project Reboot programs. He was a fearless volleyball and softball player, and often amazed his teammates by his unswerving focus on scoring just one more point. David is survived by his loving wife, Ann. David's mother and uncles Louis, Manuel, and Morris Shogam all predeceased him. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am, led by Rabbi Mark Raphael, on Monday, February 13, 2017, in Rock Creek Cemetery, 201 Allison Street N.W., Washington, D.C., 20011. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA), Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital, and Montgomery Hospice Casey House. Special thanks to the staffs of these organizations for their unfailing medical support, compassion, and spiritual generosity to David, his family, and his friends.
