Dorothy Cooper
Kornhauser
September 27, 1932 – December 18, 2025
Dorothy Cooper Kornhauser passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025 at the age of 93 in Rockville Maryland.
As a native Washingtonian Dorothy led a full and robust life surrounded by a large extended family and many close friends. She celebrated with them no matter the occasion and loved to laugh, sing, dance, and be around any kind of music. Her Grandmother Rosie and Aunt Cele played a significant role in raising her along with her parents. She attended both Syracuse University and University of Maryland. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Burton Cooper, of 41 years, and her second husband Louis Kornhauser, of 21 years. She is survived by her three children Brent (Joan), Wendy, and Andrew; grandchildren Jamie (Gary), Brenna (Alainna), and great granddaughter Everly.
Dorothy’s grandmother Rosie helped found the Washington Hebrew Congregation and Dorothy remained an active member for decades. She rarely missed a Friday night service and participated in weekly Torah study and various charitable events as an enthusiastic volunteer. Dorothy devoted a good part of her life in support of various charitable organizations, most notably The Woman’s Auxiliary of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. She served the organization in many capacities including President and Chair for the Starlight Ball, the Hebrew Home’s largest fundraising effort of the year. She was also an avid sailor and explored countless rivers, creeks, and tributaries on the Cheasapeake Bay, with Burt, family, and friends. Selby Bay Yacht Club was her home port where she served on the board for many years and became the club’s first female commodore.
A private graveside ceremony was given at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Maryland. Funeral services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
