IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emilie Traktman
Lynton
December 10, 1945 – September 3, 2022
Emilie Traktman Lynton died September 3, 2022, in Bethesda, MD from severe pancreatitis.
In 1945, she was born to Isidore and Henrietta Traktman of Washington Heights, New York, NY. She studied at the Bronx High School of Science, City College of New York, and American University, earning a Bachelor's in English and a Master's in Education. She married Steve Lynton and together they raised a daughter, Julia, before their divorce in the late 1990s. Emilie was raised during a time when, as she described it, girls had two career choices: teacher or secretary. She was able to move beyond those limitations into various careers, including working at the Lab School in Washington, DC, becoming a Technical Writer and Editor for Morino Associates, serving as Executive Director of the DC Psychological Association, and later becoming a Program Manager for Technology Transfer, Export and Foreign Military Sales for the US Army Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate at Fort Belvoir, VA. Emilie retired at Fort Belvoir in 2015. She took pride in her skills and in the purpose of each of her various roles, in particular her analytical responsibilities at "the Lab" at Fort Belvoir. Emilie was a Master Gardener, a world traveler, and a self-taught calculus student just for the challenge of it. Emilie deeply loved her husband of 22 years, David Hadary. She adored her daughter Julia. Above all, her favorite person in the world was her grandson, Sky. Emilie was over the moon to become a Bubbe.
Emilie is survived by David Hadary; Julia, Kyle, and Sky Boelte; her sister Carole and brother-in-law Robert Freilich; her niece Amy Freilich and husband Neil Popowitz; her nephew Bradley Freilich and wife Theresa; and her great-nephews and great-niece Jeremy, Jonathan, Evelyn, and Henry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gallaudet University's Hearing and Speech Center (gallaudet.edu/giving).
