Obituary

Rita Florence Green (Feinberg) "Floss", 88, left us quietly on February 24, 2016 following a brief illness; she lived in Rockville, Maryland for over three years. Floss was born August 14, 1927 in Chester, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death to European immigrant parents Charles and Rose Feinberg, along with her beloved brother Frank. She is survived by beloved daughters Karen (Jack) Sandidge of Carolina Shores, NC, Lois (Eric) Plasky of Havertown, PA, Miriam (Curtis) Christenson of Rockville, MD, and granddaughters Samantha Christenson and Rachel Plasky. Florence graduated from Chester High School, Chester, PA in 1945, and was Editor of the school newspaper. She enjoyed her classmates throughout the decades, organizing and attending reunions of the close-knit wartime graduates. She received a B.A. in Journalism from Penn State University in 1949 where she excelled as a champion debater, and reporter for The Daily Collegian. Floss was a trailblazer in the male-dominated newspaper business and navigated a successful advertising career with the Chester times (Delaware County Times) and she was well-respected in the county. She was a correspondent for the Philadelphia Bulletin and a free-lance writer for the Voice of America. After raising her family, Floss was a sales consultant for Philadelphia National Bank. She was a member of Ner Tamid Congregation in Springfield, PA for nearly fifty years, and president of the Sisterhood. Florence was a passionate member of Hadassah of Greater Philadelphia and was elected President - in two different decades. She lent her talents to the operation of the Hadassah Thrift Shop in Brookhaven, PA for many years. Floss cultivated friends in abundance, as she did her plants and flowers...she was adored by a wide and enduring circle of friends and neighbors and was known for her enchanting, timely and prolific correspondence. She always displayed grace, elegance, eloquence and hospitality...her kindness inspired other to be kind. Her "Green" thumb was legendary in family circles. Funeral service and interment were held at Ohev Shalom Cemetery in Brookhaven, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah International, 40 Wall Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10005.
