Obituary

Florence Whitman on Friday, March 19, 2021 passed away at home. She was born on August 31, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the daughter of Willie and Tillie Broder; beloved wife of 68 years to the late Irving Whitman; mother of Carol Whitman-Wiener (David), Edward Whitman (Kathi); loving sister of the late Jerome Broder and Barbara Morris; cherished grandmother of Casey and Skylar.

Florence and her husband Irving settled in Washington, DC and traveled the world to buy unique clothing for their exclusive children's boutiques, "Bushee and The Peppermint Tree." They were as devoted to their business as they were to each other, and it was a true labor of love.

In retirement, Florence developed many hobbies. She had a natural ability to write poetry and was quite prolific. Florence became an expert in knowing the "right" foods to eat to maintain an appropriate nutritional balance, and was a resource for many. She was fiercely independent and had "her way" for everything she did.

She was reserved and very sensitive, and believed that family was the priority over anything else. She greatly underestimated her value and everlasting impact on her extended family and friends. She was very loved and will be forever in our hearts.

Private graveside services will be held at King David Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JSSA  ( jssa.org ) or Children's Inn ( childrensinn.org ). Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
