IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Franklin Lewis
Roberts
January 24, 1933 – July 14, 2022
Franklin Lewis Roberts passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022 in North Bethesda, MD. He was born in New York City on January 24, 1933 to mother Celia and father Harry. After spending his childhood years in Richmond, VA, the family returned to New York. He graduated from Cornell University in 1954 and the New York University School of Law in 1959. He worked as an attorney for 35 years. Frank was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a First Lieutenant in the 7th Infantry Division. He married the love of his life, Cynthia Halperin, in 1958. In the mid-1980s, he coached—with great success—the Ramapo High School Mock Trial team. In 1993, Frank was named the first Justice of the Village of New Hempstead, NY, where he and his family lived for many years. Frank and Cynthia moved in 1998 to Maryland, where Frank was board president of Old Georgetown Village Condominium for 14 years. He worked as a docent at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC for many years. An avid sports fan, Frank closely followed his beloved New York Yankees, New York Football Giants, Duke Blue Devils, and Washington Capitals. Frank also reveled in completing both the New York Times and Washington Post crossword puzzles on a daily basis. Always a stickler for precision, he corresponded on occasion with William Safire and Will Shortz, New York Times crossword puzzle editors, discussing nuances of the clues in the puzzles they created. Frank proudly maintained records of his correspondences. He was also a multiple award winner in the weekly New York Magazine writing contests. Frank leaves behind his beloved wife, Cynthia, children Tracy Roberts Berman (Todd) of North Bethesda, MD and Hal Roberts (Dawn) of Ridgefield, CT as well as four beloved grandchildren: Aaron and Ross Berman and Lily and Amanda Roberts, who brought him great joy and pride. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as a brother, Dr. Steven Roberts. Funeral services are to take place on July 17th at 1:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
