It is with sadness that we announce the passing of George Thomas Willingmyre on October 28, 2024 in Silver Spring, MD. George Willingmyre was born on February 9, 1948 in Washington, DC. He was the founder and president of GTW Associates, a company that specialized in international standards. He also worked at Westinghouse, Booz Allen, HIMA and was head of the DC office of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, visiting national parks, gardening, scuba diving, watching the sunset (hoping to catch the green flash), astronomy, and genealogy. He traveled the world to witness four total solar eclipses, journeying to Turkey, China, Aruba, and Oregon. He loved planning and enjoying beach and fishing family vacations. He enjoyed visiting family in Gosport, Alabama every November to go hunting. One of his fondest memories was participating in STARMUS festivals for many summers, where he met Stephen Hawking and other brilliant scientists. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna Willingmyre, his children Dan Willingmyre, Christine Stavrou and Stephen Willingmyre and grandchildren Kyle Stavrou, Connor Willingmyre, Logan Stavrou and Kennedy Love Willingmyre.
