Obituary

On March 20, 2022, Harry L. Alexander of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully in his sleep. Beloved husband of Stephanie (Steffi) Alexander; devoted father of Evan (Ashley) and Brooke (Trevor); cherished "Papa / Papa A" to Ella, Carter, Phillip, and Paulette Alexander and Tucker and Morgan O'Reilly; loving brother-in-law of Cynthia Evans, brother to the late David (Sheila) Alexander, and caring uncle to Elyse Kropp and the late Adam Alexander, and many cousins. Longtime treasured friend to many. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1940 to the late Pauline and Theodore Alexander, Harry grew up in various Philadelphia neighborhoods, the last being Overbrook Park. Attended Temple University pursuing a degree in Communications, where he first found his voice as a commentator on the University radio station. Proud member of the Rose Valley Players performance group where he starred in many live, semi-professional musicals, most notably The Music Man, Anything Goes, and Carousel. Throughout his 20s and 30s he spent time starring in little theater plays and leading in barbershop quartets, while growing his sales career and becoming a corporate executive at Casio, Inc. He was a longtime member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of BarberShop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA). Many will remember all the moments they were captivated by his showmanship on the stage and on the mic. He and Steffi met on 69th street in Manhattan in April of 1971. Married in September, 1972, they were soon going to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. In 1976 Harry and Steffi moved to Washington, DC where they would spend the rest of their lives together building a business and a family. Professionally, Harry's greatest success was the business he built with Steffi alongside him, The Alexander Company, in which he represented the top consumer electronics products, including Atari. Harry's proudest accomplishment of all was his family and the beautiful love he and Steffi shared that only grew stronger throughout their years together. Harry had a special presence; he brought people together with his sense of humor, quick wit, and storytelling. It was his unwavering honesty, integrity, and commitment to family, however, that defined his life and marks his legacy.
