Obituary

Henri Mitler saw the world through the eyes of a scientist but enjoyed the world with keen intellect and sense of humor. Henri was born in Paris to Jacob and Cecile Mitler. As a child Henri lived in Buenos Aires and then later moved to New York. Growing up trilingual helped Henri cultivate friends throughout his lifetime; they are mourning his passing on Tuesday.

Henri graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, City College of New York and earned his doctorate degree from Princeton University. His career in astrophysics and fire science took him from the Harvard Observatory to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Henri enjoyed traveling the world. He hiked in the Himalayas, went on safari in South Africa and white water rafted down the Colorado River. He played chess and tennis, enjoyed a good joke, and loved classical music. Mostly, Henri loved his wife Susan and his son Daniel.

Henri leaves his devoted wife Susan, son Daniel and daughter Julia to mourn his loss and cherish his memory.

A celebration of Henri's life will be held at a later date. If you wish, a donation in Henri's honor can be made to Doctors Without Borders (donate.doctorswithoutborders.org).
