IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Henry A
Folsom
January 28, 1932 – November 12, 2025
Henry Allan "Al" Folsom, a lifelong resident of the Washington, D.C. area known for his sharp wit, love of family, and unwavering loyalty to the hometown football team, passed away peacefully early in the morning on November 12, 2025, in Rockville, Maryland. He was 93.
Born on January 28, 1932, in Washington, D.C., Al grew up in the nation's capital and remained deeply rooted there throughout his life. After graduating high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955, an experience that instilled in him discipline, humor, and a sense of camaraderie that he carried with him always.
In 1957 Al met the love of his life, Judy, on a blind date set up by her cousin in a match that would define the next six and a half decades of both their lives. The couple married in June 1958 and built a warm, welcoming home that became the center of countless family gatherings, card games, and football Sundays. Though Al once dreamed of retiring to Florida, Judy wisely reminded him of the strong community they had built in Washington and as was often the case, she was right.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Al is survived by his wife, Judy Folsom; his son, Jeff Folsom; his daughter, Michelle Folsom; and his grandchildren, Justin, Brennan, and Aaron. He was immensely proud of his family, even when raising a raucous teenage son in the '70s who flatly refused to cut his hair no matter how hard Al insisted.
Al began his career as an accountant before finding his true calling in mortgage banking, where he spent most of his professional life. He took great pride in helping families achieve their dream of homeownership, and well into his later years could recite current mortgage rates without hesitation. His work was never just about the numbers, it was about people. Al's formal work in mortgage banking was coupled with a lifelong hobby as an armchair investor where his most significant blemish - as he so often told it - was ignoring the advice of his middle-school aged daughter in the late 1960's, who urged him to buy stock in some upstart cartoon company called "Disney."
Al loved traveling the world, visiting five continents throughout his life and treasuring regular trips to Montana to see his son and grandchildren. Back home, he was a fierce card player, happiest when seated around a table with friends and family, hitting his Pinochle bids or reducing-and-knocking with great discipline in every hand of Gin Rummy.
Al was all-in on life's simple pleasures: his Washington Post alongside eggs, toast and coffee every morning; curating a perfect zoysia lawn over a years-long section-by-section weekend project; a medium-rare ribeye whenever he got the chance; and Boston Cream Pie, which Judy prepared for him on 68 birthdays in a row.
Al Folsom lived a full life of love, laughter, and devotion to his family, his community, and the city that shaped him. In his classic wit that all who knew him came to treasure, Al spoke often about his wishes to go "feet first from King Farm to King David"; always one to stay true to his word, he saw that through too. His humor, his stories, and his generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
