On Friday, January 30, 2015, Irvin David Steinman of Silver Spring, MD., devoted father of Jonathan A. Steinman and Peter L. Steinman, cherished brother of Robert Steinman, and adored grandfather of Samuel, Douglas, Nathaniel, Nicholas and Noah Steinman passed away from complications caused by aspiration pneumonia. Dr. Steinman was a WW II Army Air Corps veteran who retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve. He attended Brooklyn College, the University of Kansas, and University of Chicago before obtaining his PhD in microbiology from research done with Nobel Laureate Dr. Linus Pauling at Rutgers University. Dr. Steinman was the Director of Scientific Opinion at the Federal Trade Commission until his retirement in 1987. The funeral was held on February 1, 2015 at Danzansky-Goldberg Funeral Home in Rockville, MD. A military ceremony will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined. Donations can be made to the Union of Concerned Scientists or the Audubon Society.
