Obituary

On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, of Rockville, MD. Irving Whitman, born July 6, 1918 in Rochester, NY and grew up in the South Bronx, NY. Son of Abraham and Eda; stepson of Jennie; beloved husband of 67 years of Florence Whitman; father of Carol Whitman-Wiener (David), Edward (Kathi) Whitman, loving brother of the late Sam, Milton, Hyman, Harry and Jeanette. Also survived by grandchildren, Casey and Skylar. Irving was a World War II Veteran of the US Army and Air Force, serving from 1942 to 1945 in England as a Sergeant and Court Reporter before settling in Washington, DC, where he traveled the world with his wife to buy unique clothing for their exclusive children's boutique, "Bushee and the The Peppermint Tree." His hobbies included carving walking sticks, (Whitsticks) and creating custom stained glass. A gentle man, loved by many, whose great pleasure was spending time with his family. Graveside services will be held Friday, May 27, 2016 at 2 p.m. at King David Memorial Gardens, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Chuch, VA 22042. Interment to follow. Family will be receiving friends from 4:30pm to 9pm at the residence of Ed and Kathi Whitman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JSSA or Children's Inn.
