Obituary

Dr. Jack R. Alexander died on January 28, 2018 at the age of 97 in the comforting presence of his family. Born to David and Mary Abraham, he was a native Washingtonian and graduate of Roosevelt High School and the Georgetown University School of Dentistry. After serving honorably as a U.S. Army officer and dentist during World War II, he opened a private dental practice in the District of Columbia where he treated his patients with expert, gentle care for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his only son, Jackie, and his beloved wife, Mary (nee Puglisi), with whom he shared an abiding love and many cherished memories. With his gentlemanly manner, warmth, and humor, "Uncle Jack" was adored by generations of his extended family. He was a 70-year member of Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD and enjoyed a host of close, enduring friendships. His wonderful stories and quiet resolve will continue to serve as a model of a life well lived. He is survived by his niece, Maria Puglisi (Chris Herles) of New York City; and nephews, Robert Puglisi (Kathy) of Springfield, VA; John Puglisi (Sarah) of Oxnard, CA; Daniel Puglisi (Terri Clark) of Phoenix; as well many devoted great-nephews and great-nieces. Private interment. A gathering for family and friends will be scheduled in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
