Janice Booher Romanoff passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, at The Meadows Assisted Living at Brooke Grove Retirement Village in Sandy Spring, MD.
Born February 23, 1946, in Lewistown, PA, Janice was raised in Mount Union, PA. She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Romanoff, in 1970. They shared more than 40 years together in North Potomac, MD, until Bob's passing in 2014. Janice later lived in Leisure World, Silver Spring, before moving to Brooke Grove.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Thomas) Reed; brother, Dennis (Judy Young) Booher; sister-in-law, Ruth (Ron) Dubois; and her beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and several siblings.
Janice graduated from Captain Jack High School in 1964 and Hagerstown Business College with honors in 1966. She enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career as a program analyst with the National Institutes of Health's National Cancer Institute, earning several prestigious awards for her contributions before retiring in 2001.
Jan loved traveling, reading, music, theater, and entertaining. She especially enjoyed bringing people together and was thoughtful and devoted to her family and friends. A lifelong member of Mount Union Presbyterian Church, she remained deeply connected to her hometown and family roots. One of her most memorable trips with Bob was to Northern Ireland in 2005 to explore their family's ancestral history.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Meadows at Brooke Grove, Compassionate Care for Seniors, LLC, and JSSA Hospice for the kindness and compassionate care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Children's Inn at NIH, the Mount Union Alumni Association, the Mount Union Historical Society, Mount Union Presbyterian Church, or the Huntingdon County Historical Society.
