On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Joan Bush passed away. Beloved wife of the late William Bush Jr; devoted mother of Jeffrey, Neal (Shari), and Chaya; cherished grandmother of Jacqueline Bush, Danielle (Benjamin) Fechter, and Ryan Bush; loving great-grandmother of Scottie Fechter.

Joan was a dedicated wife to her husband Bill for 64 years. She was born in Alexandria, VA, attended George Washington University, and spent several years in her 20s working at the Pentagon. She married the love of her life, Bill, in 1960 and grew her family to include 3 children, Jeff, Neal, and Ilene. She spent 30 years living in Suburban Maryland, raising her family and bettering her community. She was an active member of Washington Hebrew Congregation and one of the original members of its volunteer choir that sang and spread joy across the country. She was an accomplished traveler, visiting places around the world, including China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Israel, and Africa. Africa was her favorite place because of her love of animals. Joan was known for being a great cook, even cooking special foods for her many dogs that she loved and cared for over the years.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street, NW, Washington, DC 20016, with interment to follow at King David Memorial Gardens, Falls Church, VA.

The family will observe Shiva from 5-7 pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Brooklyn’s Deli, 1089 Seven Locks Road, Potomac, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Joan Bush to the Alzheimer’s Association. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
