BINDER, JosephPeacefully breathed his last on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in Rockville, Maryland, at age 93 and is now eternally reunited with his wife of 66 years, Liba Binder, who predeceased him eleven months earlier. Ever the survivor, he thrived despite all the obstacles he faced in life - his father's death two months before his birth; a truncated education to help support his mother; temporary occupation by the Nazis of his hometown of Ciechanowiec, Poland; impressment into service with the Red Army; extermination of his family in the Holocaust; wartime starvation during his time working in a munitions factory; "difficulties" courtesy of the Soviet Communist Party and its secret police; three years as patriarch of his extended family in various displaced persons camps in postwar Austria; and, finally, emigration to a far-away Los Angeles, California. There, he was able to live the American dream, working for more than 30 years as electrical/mechanical maven and foreman at American Metal Products. This is now carried on by his sons Irwin (Terri) Binder and Michael (Sheila Etzkorn) Binder; his grandchildren Shane Binder, Zev (Kim Reiss) Binder, Hana Binder, and Sidney Ainkorn; and great-granddaughter Amelia Binder.He was laid to rest beside his beloved Liba on November 5 at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, Clarksburg, Maryland.
