IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph N
Snyder
August 19, 1933 – August 14, 2024
Joseph N. Snyder, 90, of Silver Spring, MD, died Aug. 14, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ida Snyder, and brother, Sherwin Snyder. Joseph was the beloved husband of his wife of almost 60 years, Alise; father to daughters, Michelle Snyder and Evie Laug and their husbands, J. Keith Dunbar and Brian Laug; grandchildren, Eden and Tyler Laug; nephew, Daniel Snyder; and nieces, Kimberly and Laura Snyder.
Joseph was born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. After college, he moved to the Washington, DC, metropolitan area where he met the love of his life, Alise, raised his children and built a beautiful life.
Joseph was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served at the Pentagon during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he was a long-term employee at General Electric and a variety of other public- and private-sector organizations. Joseph found his niche in computer science, specializing in quality assurance. He was a real pioneer in the computer field—working with the massive computers in the 1960s to the small laptops of today.
He was a former master mason of the Samuel Gompers-Benjamin Franklin Lodge.
Joseph most enjoyed spending time with his family—particularly his cherished grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling around the world and sharing many adventures with his wife—particularly visiting Aruba. Joseph loved all animals and treated the family's dogs as his "furry" children. He was a huge OU football and a "long-suffering" Washington Redskins fan. Joseph had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and lived life to the fullest. He was an instant friend to everyone he met and was a joy to be around. The world is a little less bright without him.
