Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Judith Lichtmann, 80, announces her passing after battling advanced stage lung cancer. She died peacefully in her home on February 17, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Judith is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Albert Lichtmann, her adoring daughters, Katherine (Kitty) Dockser (Evan) and Vivian Keller (Eric), and her grandchildren, Samantha, Drew, Julia, Benjamin and Joshua who each gave her such pride and joy.

Born in Budapest, Hungary on January 13, 1942 to Dr. Leslie Bardos and Susan Bardos, she and her family lived through some very difficult times during World War II. After the 1956 communist uprising in Hungary, Judith, along with her parents and grandmother, Ilona Jonas, emigrated to the United States and lived in Manhattan where she attended the Julia Richman High School and New York University.

In 1962, she met and married her beloved husband of 59 years, Dr. Albert L. Lichtmann, and moved to Arlington and then McLean, Virginia where they raised their two daughters, Kitty and Vivian. Judith was active in Jewish organizations including fundraising for Israel Bonds and serving as a past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Hebrew Home and chairing both the Starlight Ball and Aunt Minnie Luncheon. Judith also worked in retail sales for over 17 years at Neiman Marcus Tysons Corner.

An avid skier, Judith enjoyed many years skiing the slopes of Vail, Colorado. She traveled the world with her husband. Their vacations took them to many places throughout the United States as well as Europe, Asia, Central and South America and the Caribbean. In the last 15 years, she and Albert spent several winter months enjoying the beaches and warmth of Naples, Florida. She also loved art, fashion, reading (especially with her book club), opera, theater, and hikes and walks in nature. Her most cherished role was being Mumum to her five grandchildren.

She was an exceptional beauty both inside and out and adored by her family and many friends. Judith made everyone she met feel important and listened to. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion and grace.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 20, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at Temple Rodef Shalom, 2100 Westmoreland St, Falls Church, VA 22043 (Covid safety protocols will be followed; proof of vaccination and masks required). A live stream of the service may be found at: www.templerodefshalom.org/live. Burial service following will be private and for immediate family only. The family will be observing Shiva privately.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
